Hair Care Oil & Hair Care Serum

What is the Difference Between Hair Care Serum and Hair Care Oil?

Our job is getting more difficult when certain products look the same when doing hair care. Take hair serums and hair oils, for example. You will often be asked if the two are interchangeable or if you need both. Here we want to answer precisely what is the difference between serums and oils.

Are Hair Care Serum and Care Oil the Same?

Let's get one thing straight first: Hair serum and oil are not the same thing. Both are hair care products and are generally used for dry hair, but having that overlap doesn't mean totally resemblance.

Hair Care Serums:

Hair serum is a targeted hair care treatment with a liquid formula. It can be slightly creamy or have an almost water-like liquid texture. In this state, the structure of hair serum is similar to face serum. It is their prominent feature that they are also water-based. Certain benefits are targeted with the formula it contains and it is a cosmetic formulation. While there are many moisturizing hair serums for dry hair strands, there are also options to address various hair concerns.

Hair Care Oils:

Oils and serums have many similarities, but the difference is simple. Hair care oil has an oil-based formula. Argan oil, Coconut oil, Olive oil, and Jojoba oil are popular ingredients. You may find that a hair care oil is formulated entirely with one of the only plant-based ingredients, such as Hare Organic Argan Oil or a mixture of different oils. The purpose of most hair care oils is to nourish the hair, increase shine or repair damage. A hair care oil can also be used to lock the moisture in.

What is Hair Care Oil Serum?

The comparability of hair serums and oils will not go unnoticed by anyone. This is why these two types of hair care products are often blended in one super product. The result is a hair care oil serum. These products take the best of both and bring them together. It is a convenient option that allows you to get all the benefits (frizz control, shine, nutrition and moisture retention) as well as streamline your routine. We are also fans of hair care oil serums. The main products we recommend are Hare Organic Argan Oil Serum and Shakira Collagen Keratin Serum

Hare Organic Argan Oil Care:

This permanent hair treatment is both oil and serum. With its Pure Organic Argan oil, it helps moisturize and nourish dry, lifeless hair, so your hair becomes soft and shiny. Hair is splendidly soft, lightweight and looks radiantly shiny after one use.

Shakira Collagen Keratin Deep Nourishing Care Serum:

This hair serum for dry hair is formulated with collagen and keratin for shine and nourishment without weighing your hair down. After each use, the hair is nourished and gains an intense shine, fluidity and silky texture.

How to Choose Hair Care Serum or Oil

The rules on how to use a hair care serum, an oil or a combination product are almost the same. Which one to use is more related to the ingredients and the result you will see after applying it on your hair. You take some (two to three drops in sufficient quantity) of your preferred formula and apply it from the middle parts to the ends on damp or dry hair. Avoid applying oil to your scalp as they may look greasy (only once a week). Apply to damp hair after shower as a conditioner or use on dry hair as a finishing touch that enhances shine for any hairstyle.

If you are applying other hair care products, you should apply the serum or conditioning serum oil second or last. If your hairspray is to be used, this should always be the last step in your hair care and styling routine, and just before that comes a serum or oil. Shampoo, conditioner, masks, mousse, gel and other hair products should be applied before serum or oil.
If you intend to apply both serum and oil in two separate steps, use the serum first. Let the oil form a protective layer last and trap the moisture in the serum that you applied earlier.
